Alamosa, Colorado That's where I call my home I got my wife and a piece of land 70 acres, life ain't so bad I hunt and I fish when I want to Enjoy a good rodeo, don't ya know Because I'm a cowboy the blackest you ever seen And I'm proud to be And you can call me Middle Passage please My name reflects my people's history It's one of some highs and some lows Put our faith in the Lord, she knows So I am asking y'all to sing along with me I'm asking y'all to sing along with me Today's a good day I gave my life my march for justice From Selma to D.C. I knew there was something wrong Our young boys are dying in the streets So I made a decision there will be no more injustice Over me When I died I was giving glory to God It was meant to be And you can call me Middle Passage please My name reflects my people's history It's one of some highs and some lows Put our faith in the Lord, she knows So I am asking y'all to sing along with me I'm asking y'all to sing along with me Today's a good day

The power's that be Took away our vote And now we are in an emergency Tell me, what will happen next? My city, my city, my city is being sold To the highest bidder Doing what they please To the people and to the land Sister and brothers, it's time to make a stand We have an E.M. he's run amuck, he's doing all he can To put out the poor and the old Make room for the rich He wants people to do as they are told Who knows what's right or what's wrong? But I know and you know there's something fishy going on Look around Midtown Things are changing We have no more independent bookstore There's corporations on every block I don't know what to tell my kids because it doesn't look like it will stop Go downtown and you will see people dressed in suits Sipping coffee while on their phones Above the hustle and bustle I see drones Arming the police or public safety, who are you protecting? I swear not my, not you You better be careful With what you say and what you do If you get them angry they may turn your water off Or kick you out of your home, who knows how far this will go?

Debt Slavery 03:37
Took out a loan and went to school Got good grades and found a job Gonna work real hard like ma and pa Gonna work real hard like ma and pa I'm just a kid I don't know nothing About mortgage rates, credit scores, and predatory policy It's a mystery to me I'm just doing what I'm told Ten years later I'm up to my knees In a thing called debt slavery I've got a steady nine to five Pinchin pennies just to stay alive I am a bit older now, but I still don't know Where does all that money go? There's income taxes, debt repayments, all those financial obligations to uphold The question I ask is, who do I owe? Debt collectors have many names And lord knows they'll trap you in their game So take heed and learn from me Or you'll end up in debt slavery It's up to you now to teach your kids Show 'em the right way to live You gotta trust yourself, follow your heart, stay true right from the start Remember to follow that voice To live is just a choice Choose wisely, think it through, and deep down you know what to do

I've been working all day And I'm happy just to go home Put my feet up, fix myself a drink and watch the tube I pay my taxes and I cut the lawn I go to church on Sundays And I even visit my in-laws I live my life day by day I'm just going through the motions I'm not sad, I'm not glad, I'm just content to live my life And I know there's a war going on, and there's kids dying in the streets But that's on the other side of the world That stuff does not concern me I'm an American citizen and I know I'll be alright Because the Lord loves this country He watches over us day and night In my free time I like to go up north, drink a beer with the pals We'll talk about it Come Monday morning I've got a couple kids and I've even got a wife And they will be okay Just as long as they listen to what I say Because I know that I'm right, the Lord does not tell a lie But he knows That I am afraid to die Yes, the Lord knows that I'm afraid to die I've got a piece of real estate and I've got a couple cars I like the things I've got And I don't ever wanna let them go So I'll just keep holding on to all my possessions I'll take them to the grave But the Lords knows that I'm afraid to die Yes, the Lords knows that I'm afraid to die And I still blame my old man for skipping town Leaving me with all these Responsibilities I used to love to draw and paint, but now I'm old and filled with hate I just don't know what to do But the Lords knows that I'm afraid to die Yes, the Lords knows that I'm afraid to die
